Edmonton's Adult Hits Radio Station

Listen Now

Chuck @ 92.5 streams adult hits from the 1980s through today out of Edmonton, Alberta, mixing pop, rock and the occasional surprise with commentary that stays pointedly, deliberately local. It is free to stream live on Radio Shuffle, no account or app required.

One Frequency, Six Names Since 1982

The 92.5 MHz frequency has carried a new identity almost every few years since it first went to air. According to Wikipedia, CFCN Communications won the license in 1981 and launched the station as CJAX-FM in August 1982, playing country music. A 1986 flip brought a change to soft rock and the call letters CKNG-FM under the name King FM, followed in 1991 by a switch to Top 40 as Power 92, launched with Snap's dance hit The Power.

Corus Entertainment took over the station in January 2000 and kept reshaping it through the 2000s and 2010s, running it as Power 92.5, then 92.5 Joe FM, then The New 92.5 Fresh FM. Each version chased a slightly different adult audience without settling on a lasting identity.

A City Nickname Becomes a Call Sign

That changed on August 3, 2018, when Corus relaunched the station as 92.5 The 'Chuck. In the launch announcement, program director Greg Johnson said the company saw a chance to introduce an original sound to the market, adding that Edmontonians are proud of their city and that the station was built to embody that pride. The format description called it a shuffled mix of pop rock and variety from the 80s through today, paired with less on-air talk than any other station in the market, but commentary that stayed sharply local between songs.

The name itself borrows from a long-running local nickname. According to the Dictionary of Canadian English Usage Project, Edmonton has been informally called Edmonchuck for decades, a blend that reflects the city's sizeable Ukrainian immigrant community, since "-chuk" is a common ending for Ukrainian surnames. Corus trimmed the nickname down to its friendlier half for the rebrand, swapping the Ukrainian sound ending for a nickname Edmontonians already used among themselves.

A Local Morning Show Returns

The station spent stretches of its recent history relying on syndicated or Vancouver-originated morning programming. That changed again in August 2024, when Graham Mosimann began hosting The Morning Thing, bringing a locally produced wake-up show back to the station after years without one, a detail recorded on the station's Wikipedia page.
