A 17-Year-Old's Station Grows Into a National Network
Grupo ACIR traces to June 8, 1963, when Francisco Ibarra, who had already been working in radio since age 17, acquired station XEDQ-AM in San Andrés Tuxtla, Veracruz. Ibarra built quickly from that single purchase. Within three years the group ran 22 stations between owned, managed and affiliated outlets, and by 1984 it had grown into Mexico's first radio group to reach 140 stations nationwide, adding outlets in cities including Ciudad Delicias, Puebla, Puerto Vallarta and Villahermosa along the way.
The Frequency That Became Amor
The Mexico City station now associated with the Amor brand entered the ACIR fold in 1970, when XHSH-FM 95.3, then running as Radio Amistad, joined the group. That station cycled through other formats over the following decades before relaunching in 2002 as the modern version of Amor, a dedicated romantic music format Grupo ACIR has since expanded to 19 cities across Mexico, built specifically to reach an audience it describes as valuing love, friendship and family.
One Format, Split Into Digital Streams
Amor Solo Pop is one of the ways that decades-old format now reaches listeners beyond FM. Rather than a single blended playlist, ACIR carries the Amor identity into a dedicated pop-and-ballad-only digital stream, distributed through platforms like iHeartRadio, giving listeners who specifically want Spanish-language love songs and pop ballads a channel of their own instead of a wider romantic-music mix.
