Alpha FM streams adult contemporary music from São Paulo, Brazil, on 101.7 FM, mixing easy listening, soft rock, soul, R&B, and quiet storm with Brazilian and international hits aimed squarely at grown-up listeners. You can stream it live and free on Radio Shuffle from anywhere in the world.
Born on a Different Frequency
Alpha FM went on air on November 1, 1987, not as the station Paulistanos know today but as "Alpha 105 FM," broadcasting on 104.9 MHz before later migrating to its current 101.7 MHz home, according to Wikipedia's history of the station. From the start, the programming mixed Brazilian and international music aimed at adult listeners, a format the station has never really abandoned in nearly four decades on air.
A Paulista Address With an Osasco License
Alpha FM's studios sit on Avenida Paulista, São Paulo's best known commercial boulevard and the symbolic heart of the city's financial district, but the station's actual broadcast license belongs to the neighboring municipality of Osasco. That quirk, an Avenida Paulista address paired with a license registered elsewhere, is common in Brazilian radio, where frequency licenses and studio locations do not always line up with the city listeners associate the station with.
Grupo Camargo's Flagship
The station is controlled by Grupo Camargo de Comunicação, founded by José de Camargo, which also owns 89 FM A Rádio Rock and Nativa FM among other São Paulo media properties. Alpha FM has grown into the group's most recognized adult contemporary brand and, as of the most recent Kantar IBOPE Media ratings period covering November 2023 to January 2024, ranks second in audience share for its category in São Paulo, a strong position in one of the largest and most competitive radio markets in South America.
A Brand That Spread Across Brazil
Rather than expanding by building new stations from scratch, Alpha FM grew through an affiliation model, licensing its name, programming, and on-air identity to independently operated stations in other cities. Alpha FM Goiânia became the first affiliate when it launched in April 2016, followed by Alpha FM Rio, Alpha FM Brasília, and Alpha FM Rio Preto over the following years. Each affiliate carries the same adult contemporary format and branding as the São Paulo original, extending a single station's identity across several of Brazil's biggest cities without the flagship ever leaving Avenida Paulista.
Tune In
Nearly forty years after its first broadcast under a different name and a different frequency, Alpha FM remains one of São Paulo's steadiest adult contemporary stations, a soft rock and soul mix built for listeners who want familiar, easy company rather than the latest chart chase. Stream it free on Radio Shuffle and hear what has kept it near the top of its format for decades.
