New Music That Still Sounds Like the 80s

Listen Now

80s80s Neo streams new wave, new romantic, pop, and Italo disco, but with a twist: instead of just replaying decades-old hits, it focuses on brand new music that still sounds like it belongs in 1985. You can stream it live and free right now on Radio Shuffle, wherever you are in the world.

One Channel Among Forty, With a Different Mission

80s80s Neo is part of the 80s80s network, a collection of more than 40 specialized streams run by German broadcaster Regiocast, sitting alongside sister channels like 80s80s Wave, Italo Disco, and Dance, according to the channel's own page. Where most of those sister stations mine the archives, Neo takes the opposite approach, documenting what the network calls the new sound of the 80s: current releases from legacy acts like Duran Duran, New Order, and Depeche Mode, alongside contemporary artists and remixes built to sit comfortably next to them.

Curated By the Man Who Brought Germany Its First Music Videos

The channel is curated by Peter Illmann, a name that carries real weight for anyone who lived through West German television in the 1980s. Illmann moderated 68 episodes of Formel Eins between 1983 and 1984, according to his German Wikipedia biography, a program that mattered because there was, at the time, no other West German television show airing music videos at all. For an entire generation, Formel Eins was the only place to actually see the bands they were hearing on the radio.

From TV Legend to Morning Radio Host

Illmann's connection to 80s80s did not start with Neo. He has hosted the network's flagship morning show, Der Peter Illmann Morgen, alongside co-host Marie Possehl since June 1, 2021, reaching listeners from Flensburg to Oberammergau, and he runs a companion podcast called Peters Pop Stories that digs into the background of individual songs. Neo's weekly new-music segment, Peters Neo 80s Friday, extends that same role into curating what's actually new, treating him less as a nostalgia act and more as a working music critic who happens to specialize in one very specific sound.

Tune In

Built by the broadcaster who gave West Germany its first real look at music videos, 80s80s Neo argues that the 1980s never actually ended, they just kept getting new songs written for them. Stream it free on Radio Shuffle to hear it live.
