A cross-border hit station with a football habit

100,5 DAS HITRADIO launched on October 19, 1998, broadcasting out of Eupen in Belgium's small German-speaking community. According to its station background, it reaches roughly 1.1 million German speakers spread across the Meuse-Rhine Euroregion, the border area where Belgium, Germany, and the Netherlands meet, and calls itself the most listened-to station in that region and in southwestern North Rhine-Westphalia. The station is jointly owned by BRF Medien AG in Eupen, Radio Salü in Saarbrücken, and PFD Pressefunk, and its regular format leans on hits from the 80s and 90s alongside current chart music aimed at listeners in their thirties and forties.

Sport is where the station breaks from its own playlist. 100,5 carries full commentary for two clubs, Borussia Mönchengladbach and Alemannia Aachen, and built a dedicated Alemannia Livestream for the 2024-25 season covering all 38 third-league matches plus cup games, complete with pre-match reports and post-match interviews, as described on the station's own Alemannia Live page.

The club behind the commentary

Alemannia Aachen was founded on December 16, 1900 by a group of eighteen high school students, who named the club after the Latin word for Germany, according to a Bundesliga historical guide to the club. Alemannia has played in the Bundesliga four separate times, including a runner-up finish in the 1968-69 season, its high-water mark in German football. The club's home ground, Tivoli, has an equally long story of its own: the city of Aachen granted the club the old Villa Tivoli estate in 1908, a stadium was built there and opened in 1928, and after 83 years on that site the club moved into a new Tivoli stadium built nearby in 2009, closing out one of German football's longest-running stadium tenures.
